LONG INACTIVITY OF THE

BATTERY

If the vehicle remains unused for more

than fifteen days, it is necessary to

recharge the battery, in order to prevent

sulphation, see page 68 (CHARGING THE

BATTERY).

u Remove the battery, see page 67

(REMOVING THE BATTERY) and store

it in a cool, dry place.

To avoid degradation in the wintertime or

while the vehicle is stored away, check

battery charge at regular intervals

(monthly).

u Recharge the battery fully at a normal

charge rate, see page 68 (CHARGING

THE BATTERY).

If the battery remains on the vehicle,

disconnect the cables from the terminals.

CHECKING AND CLEANING THE

TERMINALS

Carefully read page 65 (BATTERY).

u Make sure that the ignition switch is in

position “”.

u Remove the rider seat, see page 21

(UNLOCKING/LOCKING THE SEAT).

u Remove the left side body panel, see

page 57 (REMOVING THE SIDE BODY

PANELS).

u Lift the battery retaining bracket (1)

taking care not to scratch the tank (if

necessary protect the tank with soft

cloth).

u Partially remove the battery from its

seat.

u Make sure that the cable terminals and

the battery terminals are:

– in good conditions (and not corroded or

covered with deposits);

– covered with neutral grease or Vaseline.
